Realizations of the day

Here are a few things I have come to understand in the past twenty-four hours:

1. I have gone from years as a trained performance pianist to plunking out just enough of a song to accompany my rather poor singing. Time for new sheet music and some discipline. Also, I am easily distracted. The reason I realized both these things is because I was vacuuming the living room when I saw that I had left my Rent song book open on the piano and said, “Hey! That would be fun!” I sang and played wholeheartedly but now have a half-vacuumed floor. I’m counting the minutes till November 11 when the movie opens.

2. When eating Cajun chicken wings, under no circumstances should one attempt to relieve an itchy eye. Even if a knuckle looks clean, it isn’t. There is seasoning on everything from the wrist down. One onomotopoeia for you: ouch.

3. Speaking of chicken, the idea of caviar is really not that odd; as Joel pointed out, we eat chicken eggs all the time.

4. Speaking of Joel, the next time he asks me if he should get a computer game, especially one like Civilization III that I know full well he will play every waking moment for three days, I should say no, no he shouldn’t. Every few hours he emerges from the office, red-eyed, requesting food or drink, then settles back into his chair for more gaming. He’s still on vacation for another day, and we have had a great time the past two weeks, so I really can’t complain. I’ll just need to turn him so he doesn’t get sores.
