General

Somewhat vindicated

Through a discussion with my next door neighbor yesterday, I discovered that I am indeed making progress in one of my missions. One of her nephews used to be terrified of dogs, understandably so, because he had been bitten twice. He had extended his fear from the biting dog to all dogs, including this neighbor’s mini dachshund. Now, however, after playing with Chief, he has come to realize that not all dogs are inclined to bite, even the ones larger than his own six year old frame. One kid at a time.

The weekend with family was quite nice, and the memorial service went well. We have a giant extended family, and it was comforting to see all of them. My Granddad would have been so happy that we could all be together. Thank you to everyone for kind words, emotional support, and all that delicious food. My family is very fortunate to have such wonderful friends. The gathering went smoothly in large part due to Joel’s parents opening their home (yet again) to Chief for the afternoon, since sometimes he can be a little too friendly.

Best of luck to Duke as he moves to NYC today next Wednesday (I was a week off, please forgive me). Not that he needs luck; that kid (because he’s almost three months younger than I am) has mad skillz.

Speaking of moving, I have new neighbors to include two adorable little girls and a baby on the way. I might steal it. (If this isn’t funny, someone should tell me, because I think it’s hilarious. I would never actually steal a baby.) The girls, eleven and five, and I spent the afternoon together while I worked in the flower bed. Joel had a rough couple of days and was napping when they decided to tour the house. When he finally showed himself, the five year old said, “Your son is up!” Husband, but whatever. It was cute.

I had my three month CT yesterday, will have blood work on the tenth, and find out the results on the nineteenth. I’m not sure if my doctor’s office understands the agony of these waits for this mild to moderate hypochondriac, but this is the way it is done, and it is probably about time to work on my patience again. I could have picked a less challenging week to stop biting my nails. Ah well.
