Patience…

I’m waiting for my doctor’s office to call about Wednesday’s blood work. I gotta do something to keep my mind off it, so here goes.

Tuesday night our friends came to stay with us while they look for a place here. They just spent the year in Korea, and we’re very glad to have them back. Last night they signed a lease at the apartments right by our house, and their stuff should be shipped next week. They have the most adorable little boy. He doesn’t remember me from California, but we’re having a good time anyway. He loves Chief, of course. Last night Vicdaly cooked some Venezuelan food that was amazing. It’s nice to have them with me right now because Joel is out of town for work; how I do miss him.

Yesterday I was a little missus productive. I went over to UTSA and took care of bidness (as my high school principal liked to put it). Joel applied after I did and got a letter of admittance shortly after, but mine never came, so I called their office and sure enough, I had been admitted. Immediately I tried to register, and though most of the classes were full, I found a schedule that would work and submitted my choices. Error messages all around. Prerequisites not completed. SHENANIGANS. So I wait on hold for forty minutes to be told that because I am a non-dregree-seeking student, my transcript isn’t posted, so I’ll need to go request a form for overrides. Let’s think about this a second. If I already have my degree and went to the trouble to send my transcript over, which is electronic anyway between all the major universities in Texas, why wouldn’t they go ahead and enter it? I know there are lots of students, but think of the extra work they have to do now. Not really efficient. Specific to my situation is that I only need certain classes, all of which have prerequisites.

After spending the day on campus and talking with an advisor, I have the schedule I need, minus a lab that’s full, but I can probably get in during the add/drop period. Hopefully after this semester, since I will have taken the next set of prerequisites at UTSA, things will be more smooth. I’m sure it could have been much worse, but it has fueled my underlying suspicions that there’s an anti-Aggie conspiracy in this town. The advisor was super helpful, only after she tried to say that my science classes from A&M may not transfer or be up to their standard. I’m not going to get all hyper about it, but I’m fairly certain that my school can compete with UTSA. Just a guess. I may be a bit of a two percenter, but I’m proud enough of it that I won’t accept snobbery.

Speaking of snobbery, the anti-Chief neighbors have offended me yet again, right when I was about to get over the whole thing. We went to the mailbox Monday night, Chief on the leash, and passing the other direction were the mom and one of the boys. “Hi!” we say, and wave, with smiles even. She puts her pug nose in the air and continues walking. I don’t know who they are, from where they are originally, or who raised them, but we’re friendly in Texas, damn it. And a mother of a whole litter – what kind of example is she setting for them? She should at least be civil. I’ll keep being friendly. Maybe that will irritate her more. Muwahahahaha.
