Sweet Sweet Freedom

12.15.05 | Comment?

I have interrupted my regularly scheduled lounging to update my site after an explainable ten day absence. Tuesday I took my two final exams (lab finals were taken earlier), and I must say I am satisfied with the results. Official grades are out tomorrow, and I expect to be happy with the way the semester went. What to do with myself during the break? I hope to be a little more productive in the coming weeks than I have been the past few days.

Since Tuesday, there has been much TiVo watching and fat pants wearing, supplemented occasionally by piddling at various stores. (One of said stores was Garden Ridge, which looks like all the holidays there ever have been somehow congregated, opened the roof, and vomited. I found some good clearance plant pots, though.) I transplanted my cold sensitive plants into pots and brought them inside. If anyone had told me I would care about plants ever, I never would have believed it. I’m a nurturer, but usually of warm blooded things. Since we planted in the spring while my parents were here, however, I have tried to be a good caretaker of them.

We decided not to erect an aluminum pole for Festivus (because we’ll be in Garland, and my list of grievances would be fairly short anyway), so our house will look about like it does the rest of the year as we enjoy a break from the normal routine.

In the holiday vein, I would like to propose an alternative to closed circuit gift-giving. Since it’s a little late in the game (as in, I should have said this months ago), we can take the rest of the year to perfect the plan. But how about we help and give things to people who need help and things, maybe as a group of like-minded loved ones who want to do something good together and make a difference in some small little corner of the Earth? Of course I love my loved ones, but none of us needs a thing. Volunteering, adopt a family, something? Holla if you hear me. And it can be any time of year.
