Baby, General, Life, School

Whoa.

We’re having a baby tomorrow! As one of my friends said, it’s a little surreal to know exactly when your little one is arriving. It has allowed me to prepare quite a bit (a.k.a. let my OCD run rampant) more than if I were just waiting. Honestly if Saturday came and went I might get a little cranky, but this way I plan to enjoy every minute of Zoe’s last full day in the womb. Joel and I are celebrating Valentine’s Day early and packing our bags for the hospital tonight. Yesterday an adorable pink 2nd generation iPod shuffle arrived for me and boy am I excited! Joel also got Zoe some birthday presents, including an iCrib and a Rockabye Baby Coldplay CD. I think we’re going to like those things a lot.

Hearing the little sounds, imagining Zoe’s fascination, Joel being such a good Dad already, and being so overwhelmed with everything that’s happening, I finally got extremely emotional. The past couple of years there has been something to be said for remaining a little stoic, I suppose as a self-preservation thing, and while it’s a little scary to realize how much I want the things that I have in my life, actually feeling vulnerable is different and good.

I’m pretty peaceful about whatever happens with medical school. I want that path for me, but I definitely do not see it as the only one such that I will be devastated if it doesn’t work out. Not only is there next year or the next, there are other things I could do and ways we could be perfectly happy. I still haven’t decided if I want someone to check the system for me on Thursday or if I should just wait until we get home… I want to know, but I wouldn’t want to burden someone with having to tell me that I didn’t get in. But really if it’s done Simon Cowell-esque (preferably a British-accented “Sorry – it’s a no.”) I can handle it – brief, true, and final. Which reminds me – American Idol tonight!

We will post pictures and details as soon as possible once she’s here!
