Baby

She speaks!

Zoe has been saying things here and there, but today for the first time, she clearly said, “Hi!”

I had gone to the couch at 4:30 AM to have a chance at sleep without being attacked for my milk, used as a pacifier, or clubbed in the face by Zoe’s fitful fists. I heard her squeal at 6:30 AM; knowing that my yield was the only prayer we had of her going back to sleep, I dragged myself back into the bedroom to provide the bi-hourly suckle* and flogging. I found a Zoe sitting up in the bed. She looked directly at me and said, “Hiii-ee!” It was sing-songy and very cute. I said it back. She said it again. All day she has been waving and saying hi. I love it.

*WHAT is up with that, by the way? She is 13 months old! Just when I thought (a bit sadly) that we were wrapping up this nursing business, she has started nursing at newborn levels. We are in Chicago so Joel can attend PyCon (read: Nerd Gathering) and to visit my Dad, so maybe the traveling is the cause. She hadn’t been eating well, which I attributed to teething, so maybe she’s hungry and wants comfort. Blah. At least she’s starting to talk more; maybe she’ll tell us the answers soon.
