Getting back to normal

03.24.08 | Comment?

Our Chicago trip was extended by a day last week due to the bad weather in Dallas, and we came home Thursday. That night we returned to the airport to pick up Joel and my sweet sister who came in from Atlanta. We had such fun (as you may have noticed from the 200+ pictures on Flickr) that my little writing project here got neglected.

Many, many thanks to my Dad for his hospitality in Chicago, and to the Dallas and Atlanta branches of our family for a fun Easter weekend. (And a bashful thanks to the grandparents for reminding me that this was, in fact, a holiday of some sort, and for providing the accouterments that children seem to enjoy.)

Last night and tonight, we have had a routine. Zoe has gone to bed at or near 10:30 PM, and it is lovely. Now by sharing this publicly, I may be risking a very bad night tomorrow…

We had a wonderful day together, starting with Daddy taking her at 8:30 this morning so I could sleep in. BLESS HIM. I do not use drugs in an illegal way, but I liken the past 13 months plus of sleep deprivation to some kind of out of body, hallucinogenic trip. I am one of those people who can do just fine on one or two nights of no sleep, but in general, I need sleep. Good sleep. Quality sleep. And plenty of it. I hope hope hope that our routine will stick, finally, and that I can become normal again. You know, as normal as a parent can be.
