We adopted Sophie from the Humane Society/SPCA of Bexar County in November 2004 after making a conscious decision to add a cat to the family. She was about six months old and had been unavailable for adoption for a couple of months while she received treatment for a respiratory infection. The youngest kitties didn’t catch our eye, but when Joel saw the unique calico in her cubby, we requested play time with her. After about a minute, Joel was smitten, and I went to begin the adoption paperwork. Her shelter name of Nova became Sophia Grace (Grace, in memory of our California kitty who met an untimely demise shortly after our arrival in Texas), and after the danger of Halloween had passed, she came home to live with us. (Apparently animals with black, orange, white, or all of the above are not adoptable during the week prior to Halloween as a safety measure.) She is a very lovable cat who has Joel wrapped around her little paw.
